MICROBLADING

Microblading is an advanced form of cosmetic tattooing that creates life-like hair strokes. We create, recreate and perfect your brow by etching fine detailed and life like hair strokes that blend seamlessly with your existing brow hair (if any). The line between what is real and not is blurred, and all you and anyone else sees is a complete and believable brow. Using a fine calligraphy like pen with fine needles, precision and control come together with artistic skill to deliver a soft natural result.

POWDER BROWS

Powder brows banishes the harsh and blocked lines that spring to mind. It is a more modern approach because we work more surface level meaning the pigment is placed in the top layer of the skin. We use a cosmetic tattoo machine with premium disposable attachments to create the perfect individual look. Results are more powdery, fluffy with a faded front and a crisp tail.

Please note:
Auckland stores provide powder brows and lip blush services.
Wellington OFF & ON only provide microblading services.
Hamilton & Christchurch OFF & ON do not currently offer SPMU treatments.

Why Semi-Permanent makeup at OFF & ON?

NO COOKIE CUTTERS

Tattooing should be individual, not someone else’s brows/lips on you. No two client’s features are the same. That is why we deliver a truly customised design for every client. Pigment selection is one of the most important factors to tattooing ensuring the right depth, tone and intensity fits in with the client’s complexion. By using numerous tools in our artillery, we will create something that is as unique as the individual. We will consider your likes and dislikes as well as guide you with our professional knowledge.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Challenged and frustrated brows are the perfect candidates for SPMU (semi-permanent makeup) brows. The beauty of SPMU is that its subtlety means many brows can be perfected in some way.

  • Yes. This is why the consultation is so critical to understanding if semi-permanent make-up is for you. There are some simple contraindications that can be discussed over the phone even before coming in.

  • It is very different and it is most important that expectations are managed.

Microblading - This technique does not use a machine. A hand held pen like tool with fine needles enables us to etch and mimic fine hair like strokes.

Powder/combination brows - Is a form of tattooing, but it is different from the traditional method. It is a more modern approach, because we work more surface level meaning the pigment is placed in the epidermis layer of the skin. Results are more powdery and fluffy with a faded front and a crisp tail.

All techniques are also not as permanent as with a life span of 12 - 18 months. The idea is that this is a more regular maintenance service where you may get the colour refreshed between 6 – 12 months to keep your brows looking their best. The only similarity between our SPMU brows and tattooing is pigment is deposited into your skin – but that is where all similarities end. You should be aware that pigment may always remain in your skin and that results are completely individual.

  • There are three phases within our signature services and all are compulsory if the desired result is to be achieved.

Consultation (30mins) 30min complimentary session to discuss, workshop and work with your brows to work out if SPMU brows is the right solution for you and if so our objective.

First Session - Foundation (2 hours) This is where the foundation for your brow is created. The procedure itself takes up only a small proportion of time, it is all in the planning and preparation. Topical anaesthetic is applied before and during the procedure to reduce any discomfort. Upon completion, comprehensive information and our aftercare pack is provided. You can expect from 50% or more of the colour to fade between phase one and two which is completely normal.

Second Session - Finish (2 hours) After 4-6 weeks you will return for your follow up appointment. This is when your brows are perfected, any issues are addressed and fully finished. Many clients wish to go darker and fuller once they understand how the results settle. The same process as the first service is carried out and brows are perfected.

Third Session Sometimes a third session is needed to perfect the brows if colour doesn’t retain well in the skin.

  • The second session will be needed to fill in areas that faded after the initial session, to adjust the colour if we need to go darker and add some additional strokes. We also treat the first session with a conservative approach, this allows us to tweak things before the final look.

The second session is also what will make your tattoo last 6 - 18 months until the touch-up session. The second session is where the real magic happens!

Sometimes a third session is needed due to skin type and pigment retention.

  • Semi-permanent make-up is an investment in your brows and not a one stop lifetime solution, nor is it permanent as you may traditionally think of a tattoo. How believable, natural and fresh your brows are long term is dependent on how frequently you opt to have the colour and strokes refreshed. With a life span on average of 12 -18 months before the colour fades/dulls and the hair strokes definition fade, most people opt for a refresh every 12 months to keep their brows their best. Over time the colour and definition will fade. The longevity of your brow is highly dependent on how well you look after them, the integrity of your skin and its ability to ‘hold’ the hair stroke and colour.

  • Our microblading creates the foundation for your brows, however depending on what that is, it still may be that you want and need to keep your brows their best every few weeks, through proper shaping and colouring techniques. By getting the foundation of the brow they love, most clients then treat them like any other brow and invest in regular maintenance with a brow artist.

  • This is the change we love! Sometimes the smallest change makes the biggest difference and microblading is perfect for creating improvements in your brow that make a massive difference in how you look. Balance and proportion are the key to realising your brows full potential.

  • We believe that specialisation counts when the most important thing is having the best possible brow you can. Having a specialist Semi-Permanent Makeup Artist perform a service like this, the focus remains on brow first and foremost. The shape, structure, colour and balance of the brow should guide the technical skill, not the other way around.

  • We apply a topical anaesthetic during the procedure to maximise your comfort. Many people describe it being more like an unusual scratching feel or just a little annoying rather than painful. We provide an aftercare pack for you to ensure you can look after your brows in the best possible way.

  • Yes although not always straight forward. The ideal candidate is someone who has not had any previous tattoo work. Due to the specialist nature of our work and the complexity and skill involved, we require all new clients to complete the complimentary consultation to understand their brows, current situation and if one of our brow services is a suitable option for them.

  • Not easily, particularly in the case of block tattoo. We would require you to come in for the complimentary consultation to review and discuss your brows before being able to confirm if tattooing is a viable option to your brow frustration. As you can appreciate there is often more involved to work on previously tattooed brows than a blank canvas.

  • We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene. We choose to use pre sterilised, individually packaged disposable tattooing equipment. The tools used to create your brows will be used on you and only you. We wear and use disposable personal protective clothing and bedding, and use medical grade sterilisers and cleaning agents. We also provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure that you can safely look after you tattoo during the healing period.

ON is dedicated to the safety and wellbeing of our clients. As such, we ask that you come in for a pre-treatment consultation to discuss in depth all potential risks and outcomes of this service and to assess your overall suitability for the procedure.
